Submit an abstract to our Session on Terrestrial Biodiversity and Chemical Pollution for the SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting in Maastricht: deadline 26th November!
We are pleased to invite you to submit an abstract for a platform presentation and/or poster presentation under the Session Terrestrial biodiversity and chemical pollution: understanding exposure and impacts towards improving risk prevention and managementwhich we will be co-chairing at the SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting, Maastricht, Netherlands, 17-21 May 2026.
The Session number will be available shortly once abstract submission opens on the meeting website.
The overarching theme of the SETAC Europe meeting is Embrace the Outlier: In Science, Regulations and Networks and our session is part of Track 2 Ecotoxicology Becomes Stress Ecology: From Populations to Ecosystems and Landscapes.
Our session responds to the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2030 and the EU Zero Pollution Strategy. Pollution is a key driver of biodiversity loss. Chemical pollution is changing in both quantitative and qualitative terms and there is inadequate monitoring and modelling of effects on terrestrial biodiversity and ecosystem services, in particular in relation to chemicals of emerging concern.
The session will encompass research and innovation to: (1) better understand exposure to chemicals in terrestrial wildlife, including soil-to-biota and trophic transfer and mixture effects on vertebrates; (2) model source-to-damage pathways of chemical contaminants for terrestrial ecosystems (effects on species diversity, functional diversity, ecosystem services, etc.); (3) develop tools and guidance for regulatory uptake of monitoring and modelling approaches to optimise environmental risk assessment procedures and improve chemical risk management measures, and thereby reduce chemicals damage to terrestrial biodiversity; (4) provide early warning for emerging contaminants in terrestrial biota in Europe.
This session will address the full range of environmentally-relevant anthropogenic chemicals in the terrestrial compartment, including both legacy and emerging contaminants, across all classes of compound including plant protection products, biocides, pharmaceuticals, personal care products, industrial chemicals, and others.
Please note that all abstracts must be submitted via the online abstract submission page, which can be reached via the SETAC website. The abstract submission deadline is 26th November 2025.
Please note that all presenters must register for the meeting and pay the applicable registration fees.
Please also note that in accordance with SETAC abstract submission guidance, the acceptance of a presentation is not guaranteed, though all submissions receive careful consideration.
Kindly forward this to any potentially interested colleagues and students.
Please, accept our apologies if you have received this email more than once.
We are looking forward to seeing you in May next year!
Best regards,
